Lifestyle Plays a Vital Role:
In today’s time where we sit and work for 8-9 hours five days a week, has affected our lifestyle. A lot of us, millennials, are leading a sedentary lifestyle. A lifestyle where we do not exercise or do any physical activity. Some studies show that doing any physical activity is good for us as it helps in secreting the hormones in our body. These hormones are crucial for many processes such as digestion, periods and much more. Apart from helping with these processes hormones also help to bring the stress levels down.
So to start towards working the betterment of your body, start with a little workout. A pleasant 25-30 daily minutes walk is also sufficient if you do not have much time to devote to gym or exercise.
Good Sleep can do Wonders:
I know I will sound like an oldie, but trust me a good sleep of 7-8 hours can do wonders for your body. Sleep is the time where our body relaxes, and also there is the production of vital hormones. Many people are not aware of the fact that our body follows a circadian rhythm which regulates the day and night activities. A hormone known as Melatonin governs this circadian rhythm. Melatonin is secreted during the night; this hormone helps in ovulation. Hence having a sleep of eight hours in the night is beneficial as it regulated the ovulation time.
Melatonin is greatly affected by light exposure and is secreted in darkness. So it is advised to avoid the artificial light caused by phones, tablets, laptops, after sunset. The prolonged exposure to artificial light disturbs the products of Melatonin.
Have a Balanced Diet:
In this world, we all are striving to get that perfect body. What we often forget is the importance of a perfectly balanced diet that has all the vital nutrients. A lot of people go for a low-calorie diet to lose weight and fat. This eating behavior is harmful in long periods. It is crucial to have essential nutrients such as Vitamins and Minerals in the diet. Many studies have shown that Vitamin D deficiency is linked with the lower levels of hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle. Vitamin D is essential for weight loss, decreasing depression and much more.
Many reports suggest that increasing the uptake of Vitamin D helps in treating the irregularity in periods in women with PCOS. Along with it the Vitamin also helps in decreasing the risk of other diseases. Similarly, B Vitamins are also effective in reducing Premenstrual symptoms. Vitamin B6 is reported to be one of the essential Vitamin helping with PMS.
In short, having a Vitamin-rich diet can help in regulating the cycle. Even if you are dieting make sure that the meals are enriched with Vitamins that are effective for controlling the menstrual cycle.

It has been observed that overweight can lead to heavy flow and painful periods. Similarly, being underweight is also not good as it can also lead to issues with maintaining a regular menstrual cycle. Hence it is necessary to maintain a healthy weight for getting regular periods naturally.
Keep your Stress Levels at Bay:
I know how stressful it has become to manage so much in so little time that we have. Often we stress about things or situations too much. Many studies and reports suggest that stress can affect the secretion of the hormone needed for regular periods. Stress leads to the release of a hormone known as Cortisol. As the levels of Cortisol increase, it leads to the downregulation of other steroid hormones such as progesterone and estrogen. These hormones play a vital role in maintaining the regular menstrual cycle.
Manage your stress levels by meditation, writing a journal, or doing any activity that helps in elevating your mood. Keep the stress levels low will help in regulating periods.
