Do’s and Don’ts of Mixing and Matching Swimwear
With summer on the horizon, it’s time to trade the spring layers for bikinis and swimsuits ready for long days spent by the coast. In preparation for the new season ahead, we’re diving into fresh bikini trends and bringing back our most treasured swimwear pieces.
One of our favourite ways to style new pieces and breathe new life into our existing swimwear is to mix and match. Whether you’re combining prints and colours, shapes and silhouettes or textures and finishes, we’ve created a guide on how to nail the mix and match trend to create a unique and stylish swimwear look.
Create a Unique and Stylish Swimwear Look
Combine Colours and Prints:

Do: Combine colours, prints and patterns to build a distinctive look that complements your complexion and highlights your personal style. When pairing prints, look for similar colour palettes, such as keeping vibrant colours together or muted, earthy tones. Choose a print such as floral, animal or geometric and stick to this style for a cohesive finish. When mixing and matching a printed piece with a block coloured staple, choose a block colour that is detailed in the print to make it pop.
Don’t: Overload on bold colours and clashing prints as this will disrupt the sense of cohesiveness that comes with mixing and matching pieces. Although we love a stand out print and maximalist ensemble, ensuring patterns are the same style and colours complement each other will mean your look doesn’t become too busy or overwhelming.
Play With Shapes and Silhouettes:

Do: Experiment with different shapes and silhouettes. Mixing and matching bikini top and bottom styles means you can find the ideal look that makes you feel comfortable and perfectly flatters your figure. Pair an underwired balconette style bikini top with high waisted bottoms for a retro inspired look, or string bottoms and a classic triangle top for a simple yet stylish finish.
Don’t: Combine styles that unbalance your figure. Look for pieces that have similar features, such as string ties or thicker straps and pair these together to balance your top and bottom half. In saying this, you can certainly mix and match levels of coverage to achieve a complete look that highlights your favourite features.
Mix Textures and Fabrics:

Do: Create interest and depth by pairing different textures and finishes together. When combining a statement textured piece such as crochet, keep the rest of your look simple with staple basics to avoid drawing attention away from the key piece of your look.
Don’t: Try to mix two standout fabrics or textures as this can create a finish that is cluttered and overwhelming. For a fool proof approach to trying out this trend stick to ‘less is more’.
Mixing and matching is a great way to create a unique look, combining new season and staple bikini and swimwear pieces to achieve a finish that perfectly matches your style and flatters your figure. Experiment with colours, prints, silhouettes, fabrics and textures until you find your ideal fit.
